So you want to be an Entrepreneur?
Posted by Corey Cormier in Sumo Blog
Check out this job description:
There will be no boss and you will work as much or as little as you desire. You will have unlimited earning potential while working on your dreams. There is no limit to what you can do and how you can do it. If you can dream it then you can create it. No formal education is required and no experience is needed. There is no interview for this position.
Does this sound too good to be true? The truth is that this is the job description of an entrepreneur.
1 out of every 10 American adults were involved in a startup during 2012. This number is at an all-time high. Startups seem to be the hip cool thing to do. Even celebrities are investing in startups from Will Ferrell to Bruno Mars.
Why are so many people choosing to take the plunge and accept the job of an entrepreneur? For starters it has never been easier. Crowdfunding programs like Kickstarter allow anyone with an idea to present it to world and have it validated through financial donations. Just look at Oculus Rift that raised 2.5 million on Kickstarter just two years ago and has now sold out for 2 billion to Facebook. We all dream of that type of return in 2 years.
Anyone can buy a website and create a business card. Starting a company is the easy part but making it successful is the hard part.
As an entrepreneur you will need these three things if you want to be successful:
Positive Attitude - Attitude is everything! Instead of saying, “It’s not possible,” a successful entrepreneur asks, “How can we do it?” Instead of saying, “I’ll try,” a successful entrepreneur says, “I will.” Instead of finding an excuse, a successful entrepreneur finds a way. Everything is impossible until somebody does it. Are you going to be the person that does it?
Independence - Entrepreneurs are the individuals that brave into uncharted territory to find a new way. This is a lonely road. You have to be able to stand alone withstanding criticism while waiting for the world to catch your vision.
Determination - It’s your job as an entrepreneur to break the rules and change the game. Disruption is the goal. You will experience more difficult challenges than you can imagine all while people are telling you a million reasons why you will fail. You must dig deep and find it within yourself to push through and finish strong. Do not give up on your dream because you are the only one that can deliver it to the world and the world is waiting!
